Can you believe Halloween is just around the corner? Everywhere I look is filled with monsters, ghosts, witches, and pumpkins. My kitchen has been no different lately! Something about the impending holiday just calls for making lots of sugar laden treats, am I right? It doesn’t help that I have a 2 little boys who love to help be my taste testers, because it just makes me want to make more treats! This one was a big, huge, smiles-all-over-chocolate-covered-faces hit! Monster Mash Brownie Batter Bark!

Yes my friends. Brownie batter…in chocolate bark. I first saw it from Chelsea here, but I changed mine up a bit because My Bakers Box had the cutest sprinkles and candy eyes in it this month, so I had to use them somewhere! Brownie batter sandwiched between two layers of chocolate. This is not for the faint of heart however. It is sweet. But, in all the right ways.

It makes a super cute plate for a dessert table at a Halloween party, or in my case just a cute plate sitting on your counter, if your kids (and husband) can manage to keep their hands out of it. The number of times I heard, “Have you taken the pictures yet?” while they were waiting to be allowed to eat this stuff was hilarious. And once I gave the go ahead, the stuff was gone! We gave a bag full to our neighbor just so I wouldn’t continue to have a houseful of sugar monsters running around. Literally running around like monsters.

This stuff is quick and easy to make, and so adorable. It will be so cute in little treat bags for classmates or neighbors, or taken to a party. Or, like I said, just sit it in front of your family and say have at it!

Monster Mash Brownie Batter Bark

Easy and oh so yummy Monster Mash Brownie Bark.

Ingredients

  • 1 box brownie mix
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk chocolate candy wafers
  • 2 cups white chocolate candy wafers
  • Halloween sprinkles
  • candy eyes (big and small)

Instructions

  • Prepare a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a non stick baking mat. Set aside.
  • In a small microwave safe bowl melt the milk chocolate wafers. Start with 30 seconds, stir, and continue in 30 second intervals until melted completely.
  • Pour the melted chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet and smooth with a spatula or the back of a spoon. Do not worry about perfect edges. Just smooth it out to be one even layer.
  • Place the sheet in the freezer for about 15 minutes, until solid.
  • While the chocolate is cooling, combine the brownie mix and melted butter together in a medium bowl.
  • Using a wooden spoon (or your hands) mix until the batter resembles a dough. If it is too crumbly add a little more butter. It should be a very thick dough.
  • Take the chocolate out of the freezer. using your hands press pieces of the brownie "dough" on top of the chocolate, making an even layer of dough.
  • Place in the fridge while you make the white chocolate layer.
  • In a microwave safe bowl melt the white chocolate, working the same way as the milk chocolate, in 30 second intervals until completely melted.
  • Remove the baking sheet from the fridge and carefully and evenly pour the white chocolate over the top of the brownie layer. Use a spatula or spoon to smooth it out evenly.
  • Working quickly, place the candy eyes sporadically on the white chocolate. Gently press so they stick. Then sprinkle the white chocolate with the other Halloween sprinkles.
  • Place the baking sheet back in the fridge until the white chocolate layer is hardened, about 30 minutes.
  • Once the chocolate is solid, you can carefully cut/break the bark into pieces.

Notes

There is no rhyme or reason to how you put the eyes/sprinkles on the chocolate. Just spread the eyes out all over and fill the rest with colorful Halloween sprinkles. I also used mini Reeses pieces because the colors were perfect. Feel free to add candy pieces too if you want!

Be careful when breaking. If the bark isnt quite set enough, the layers will separate. I found it best to leave it in the fridge for 30 minutes to an hour, and then use a sharp knife to start the breaking.

Mmmm, this looks totally yummy!!! I’m not sure if they offer gluten-free wafers, but now I need to look! Thanks for sharing <3

The wafers I used are gluten free! They are Make and Mold brand from Hobby Lobby. They even say gluten free on the bag! Wilton wafers work too just check. You could also do it with chocolate chips.
